If you have concerns about side effects, like bruising, read on. Here we offer five tips to help you get the most out of your injectable treatment.
Be aware of medications
Some medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or aspirin, make you more susceptible to bruising. Avoid these medications for about a week before your injection and for a couple of days after.
If you take blood thinners due to a heart condition, continue taking your medication. You should always discuss any changes in your medications with your doctor when it comes to life-threatening conditions.
Beware of supplements, too
In addition to your medications, you should be aware of the possible effects your supplements may have. For example, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and garlic, among others, have blood-thinning effects and can make you bruise more easily.
Avoiding these supplements for a week before your appointment with us can help limit bruising.
Use ice
Applying ice to your injection site immediately can help. Ice is considered cold therapy, and it helps to constrict your blood vessels, which limits bruising. Ice also helps ease any discomfort you might experience.
Arnica may help
Arnica is an herb that has been used for hundreds of years as a pain reliever. It also helps when you have a bruise. You can get it in tablet form or as a cream or ointment in most pharmacies and natural supplement stores.
Don’t drink alcohol
If you usually enjoy a glass of wine, a cocktail, or other adult beverage, you’ll want to skip it the evening before your appointment. Alcohol can interfere with the platelets in your blood. Save that drink for celebrating how great you look after your treatment.
Now that you have all of these great tips on how to avoid bruising with Botox, why not go ahead and schedule your appointment? You aren’t going to believe how great you look. We’re located in Encino, California, just north of Los Angeles.
