Radiesse

Radiesse , is a unique, FDA-approved dermal filler and biostimulator that provides both immediate volume and long-term skin rejuvenation. Unlike many traditional fillers made of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA)microspheres suspended in a water-based gel.

What Radiesse Does

Radiesse works through a "dual-action" mechanism to restore a youthful appearance:

  • Immediate Lift: Upon injection, the gel carrier provides instant structural support to fill deep wrinkles and hollow areas.
  • Collagen Stimulation: Over the following weeks and months, the CaHA microspheres act as a "scaffold," prompting your body to produce its own collagen and elastin.
  • Longevity: Because it triggers natural tissue growth, results often last between 12 to 18 months, and sometimes up to two years.

Commonly treated areas include nasolabial folds(smile lines), marionette lines, sunken cheeks, jawline definition, and rejuvenating the backs of hands.

The Ideal Candidate

Radiesse is generally recommended for healthy adults between 35 and 60 years old who have moderate to severe signs of aging.

  • Best for: Those looking to address volume loss, deep facial folds, or sagging skin without surgery.
  • Age range: While most effective for the 35–60 bracket, individuals in their 30s may use it for "pre-juvenation" to prevent deeper lines.
  • Who should avoid it: It is not recommended for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have severe allergies (especially to lidocaine), or have bleeding disorders.

Essential Aftercare

While there is typically no downtime, following specific aftercare ensures the filler settles correctly and minimizes side effects like bruising.

  • First 24–48 Hours: Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure (saunas, hot tubs), and alcohol.
  • Pressure & Positioning: Avoid lying down for at least 4 hours post-treatment. For the first few nights, sleep on your back to prevent putting pressure on the injection sites.
  • Touch & Clean: Do not massage or rub the treated area unless specifically instructed by your provider. You can gently wash your face a few hours after the procedure.
  • Manage Swelling: Use a cold compress intermittently to help with any initial swelling or bruising.
